Week 8 brought a much needed cutback week. The weekday runs were a 4, 8, and 6. Same as the week before but in a different order. The 4 turned into 3 followed by a 2 mile walk.
My Saturday long run was a mere 10 miles. Due to a last minute emergency my running plans fell through and I decided to head over to the running store and see if anyone from the DTP (Distance Training Program) group could join me. I was able to find someone who runs a similar pace and was planning to do 10 miles. It worked out quite well. I was really glad to have company. I’ve put in a lot of miles by myself lately and it was nice to not be alone. I played with the GoPro camera that day. My buddy tried a bunch of different ways to hook it to my pack and they all felt bouncy so ultimately I decided to just carry it in my hand and take pictures whenever I felt like it. I basically had no idea what I was doing. I couldn’t tell what would actually be included in the pictures.
On Sunday I met up with my trail running friend again at Riverbend Park. This time my focus was to run some of the hills on the course. The race goes around the park through a hilly section. Of course even with a map and printed directions we managed to get lost. This is how we roll. If we don’t get lost it’s no fun….or something like that. I think the directions were missing a key turn but who knows. We get lost everywhere.
We made our way through the hills and then ran along the river a little bit. And maybe through the super high river some. It was up over the trail in places. Then we took the same way back because I have to run the hills in both directions on race day.
Week 8 was another good week and I felt pretty good with the reduction in miles.
